Terms of Use

These Terms of Use (the "Terms") govern your use of the Steve Hoca website (stevehocaenglish.com) and the English exam preparation courses we offer. By using this website or purchasing a course, you agree to be bound by these Terms.

Last updated: 28 May 2026

1. About us

Steve Hoca ("we", "us", "our") is an English language tutor based in London, United Kingdom, specialising in UK visa English exams (Trinity GESE, A1/A2/B1 SELT, IELTS, Life Skills and related preparation). You can reach us at stevehocaenglish@gmail.com.

2. Acceptance of these terms

By accessing, browsing or registering for a course on this website you confirm that you have read, understood and accepted these Terms. If you do not agree with any part of them, please do not use the website or purchase a course.

3. Eligibility

Our courses are designed for adult learners (18+). By purchasing a course you confirm that you are at least 18 years old, or that you have the consent and supervision of a parent or guardian if applicable in your jurisdiction.

4. Courses, descriptions and accuracy

We do our best to describe each course accurately on the website, including level, duration, format (online or in-person), price and content. However, course descriptions, schedules and content may be updated or improved from time to time. The most recent version on the website at the time you purchase is the version that applies.

5. Prices and payments via Stripe

All prices are shown in pounds sterling (GBP) unless otherwise stated and are inclusive of any applicable taxes. Online payments are processed by our payment provider Stripe Payments Europe, Limited and its UK affiliate. By submitting a payment you authorise the charge to your selected payment method through Stripe. We never see, store or have access to your full card details. If a payment is declined, fails or is reversed we may suspend access to the relevant course until the issue is resolved.

6. Instalment plan (50% / 50%)

Where offered, you may pay for a course in two equal instalments: 50% at the time of enrolment and the remaining 50% exactly one week (7 days) later. The second instalment is charged automatically through Stripe to the same payment method, unless otherwise agreed in writing. If the second instalment is declined or not received within 7 days of its due date, we reserve the right to pause access to the remaining lessons until payment is completed. Lessons already delivered remain payable in full.

7. Booking confirmation and access

When your payment is successfully processed by Stripe, we will send a confirmation email to the address you provided. Your access to the course (online classes, in-person sessions, learning materials or downloads) will be provided according to the schedule communicated to you. Please contact us if you do not receive a confirmation within a reasonable time.

8. Cancellation and refunds

Our courses involve preparation work, personalised scheduling and the immediate provision of digital services and learning materials. As a result, refunds are limited as set out below. This clause is to be read together with your non-excludable statutory rights as a consumer. Express consent and waiver of cooling-off right By completing your enrolment and making payment, you expressly request that we begin providing the course (including scheduling, preparation of personalised content, delivery of lessons and any associated digital materials) immediately and, where applicable, before the end of any statutory 14-day cancellation period under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013. You acknowledge that, as a consequence, you lose the statutory right to cancel under those Regulations once provision of the service has begun, and you will lose that right entirely once the service has been fully performed. Non-refundable elements The following are, in every case, non-refundable: • Lessons (online or in-person) that have already taken place, in whole or in part. • Lessons that you miss, fail to attend, cancel with less than 24 hours' notice or otherwise forfeit. • Time spent by Steve preparing personalised content, study plans, mock tests or feedback for you. • Digital materials, recordings or downloads that have been delivered or made available to you. • Stripe transaction, currency conversion and payment-processing fees, which are not recoverable by us once charged. Future, unstarted lessons For lessons that are scheduled in the future but have not yet started and for which no preparation work has been carried out, we may, entirely at our discretion and on a case-by-case basis, agree to credit you for a future course or issue a partial refund. Any such partial refund will be net of: (a) Stripe and payment-processing fees; (b) a reasonable administration charge; and (c) the pro-rata value of any lessons, materials or preparation already delivered. Change of mind, personal circumstances and exam results A refund will not be issued solely because of a change of mind, change of personal circumstances (including, without limitation, work, travel, visa, family or health reasons), failure to attend, failure to study, failure to achieve a particular exam result or failure to obtain a visa. How to request a review If you believe that a refund or credit is appropriate, please write to us at stevehocaenglish@gmail.com. We will review your request in good faith. Where a refund is offered, it will be issued through Stripe to the original payment method, usually within 5–10 business days of approval. Your statutory rights Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes our liability or your statutory rights where they cannot lawfully be limited or excluded — in particular, your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 to services performed with reasonable care and skill.

9. Rescheduling and missed lessons

If you need to reschedule a lesson, please contact us at least 24 hours in advance and we will do our best to find a suitable alternative time. Lessons missed without prior notice may be treated as completed and will not be rescheduled or refunded, except in genuine emergencies which we will consider on a case-by-case basis.

10. Your conduct

When using the website and our services you agree: • Not to use this website for any unlawful or fraudulent purpose. • Not to attempt to gain unauthorised access to the website, servers or related systems. • To behave respectfully towards Steve and other students during lessons. • Not to record, copy, redistribute or share course content publicly without our written permission. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate access to our services for users who breach these rules.

11. Intellectual property

All text, images, videos, lesson materials, branding and graphics on this website and in our courses are owned by Steve Hoca or licensed to us. They are protected by UK and international copyright laws. You may view and use the materials for your personal, non-commercial educational use only. You must not copy, redistribute, reproduce, modify, publish or commercially exploit any of our content without our prior written consent.

12. Exam results disclaimer

We are passionate about helping students succeed and maintain a high pass rate, but final exam results depend on many factors that are outside our control (your attendance, effort, prior level, exam day performance, examiner discretion, etc.). We therefore do not guarantee any specific exam result, grade or visa outcome. Any historic statistics mentioned on the website are based on our own records and are provided for guidance only.

13. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by UK law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive losses arising out of or in connection with your use of this website or our services. Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be excluded by law.

15. Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The most recent version will always be available on this page with the "Last updated" date at the top. Continuing to use the website or purchase further services after we publish an updated version constitutes acceptance of the changes.

16. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes that cannot be resolved amicably will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, save that if you are a consumer based in the EU you may also have the right to bring claims in your local courts.

17. Contact

If you have any questions about these Terms, your booking or a course, please contact us at stevehocaenglish@gmail.com. We typically respond within 1 business day.
